Audio Optimum FS82E

Product information "Audio Optimum FS82E"

The fully active FS82E floor-standing speaker was developed based on the reference studio monitor MS8. It uses the same 8-inch mid-woofer with a fiberglass-reinforced paper cone and the same 30mm silk dome tweeter, with identical cabinet width (27cm) and depth (35cm). The crossover frequency to the tweeter is also 1.18kHz, and the sound character is similar: the FS82E has a warm, completely natural sound signature reminiscent of a dynamic full-range system, but it also offers a level of detail resolution and musical refinement typically only found in large full-range electrostats.

With a height of 116cm, the internal volume is significantly larger at 72 liters compared to 24.5 liters (MS8), and two identical mid-woofers are used, whose cone areas combine in the bass range while the midrange is radiated only by the upper mid-woofer. This allows for increased bass dynamics and a significantly higher maximum sound pressure level. Three internal braces divide the volume into four interconnected chambers, with only the upper chambers filled with damping material, while the lower chamber remains empty to maintain the full efficiency of the bass reflex system. The large bass reflex port, with a 10cm internal diameter, is aerodynamically optimized at both ends, ensuring no wind noise even at deep bass frequencies and high volumes. The bass reflex port curves downward inside the cabinet, allowing the air to enter at the bottom of the cabinet, an acoustic boundary, while the air exits high enough to avoid exciting the floor into resonance. This allows the Helmholtz resonator to operate with maximum efficiency, without midrange frequencies becoming audible from the forward-facing port. The bass reflex tuning, actively filtered with a Linkwitz transform, enables both precise and deep bass reproduction, which cannot be achieved with passive systems of this size.

To ensure the tweeter can handle the low crossover frequency, the 30mm silk dome works with a larger internal air volume and is coupled to the outside air via a waveguide, allowing more sound energy to be radiated forward in the lower high-frequency range while reducing diaphragm excursion.

Each individual speaker of the FS82E is driven by its own SINCOS full-bridge amplifier, and a precisely phase-parallel analog active crossover turns the two-and-a-half-way system into an ideal full-range system. The acoustic transfer function of the tweeter is integrated into the LR4 high-pass function of the active crossover via another Linkwitz transform, and a second-order analog all-pass matrix aligns the phase frequency responses of the three diaphragms across the entire audio frequency range, causing them to behave like a single diaphragm with ideal acoustic properties. Individually measured and selected speaker drivers, hand-selected foil capacitors in the active crossover, and internal wiring with basalt sheathing are standard features.

To avoid microphonic effects, the electronics are externalized from the speaker cabinets. The speakers are connected to the SINCOS MonoAmps via 6-core special cables HS4-SO8-TTP250-BA, which are included in a 1.6m length.

The result is music reproduction that stands out in terms of naturalness, dynamics, power, precision, and refinement. The FS82E can effortlessly reproduce rock concerts at live volume without causing listening fatigue, even over extended periods. But even at low volume, none of the music's vibrancy is lost, whether it's classical, jazz, rock, or pop.

A word of caution before a listening session: once you've heard the FS82E, nothing less will ever satisfy you, and that includes just about every other speaker, regardless of price.
