The interaction between professional audio and audiophile music reproduction at home frequently leads to cross-pollination between the two areas. Initially, it was the compact near-field monitors MS6 and MS8 that inspired the powerful floor-standing speakers FS62 and FS82 (with initially internal electronics); now, the further developed FS62E floor-standing speaker with external electronics has led to a new monitor that meets the highest demands in the recording studio even more effectively. The MS62E monitors, which can be used in both near-field and mid-field, combine maximum compactness, high sound pressure capability, and fundamental deep bass reproduction with an unprecedented level of precision and musicality, previously unheard of in a studio environment. Maximum compactness automatically leads to a cubic form, which offers the largest internal volume with the smallest external dimensions. With a wall thickness of 22 mm and internal cross-bracing, an external edge length of 40 cm is sufficient to achieve the same internal volume as the over-one-meter-high floor-standing speakers. The choice of speakers is the same, as is the forward-facing and aerodynamically optimized bass reflex port at both ends. Due to the special arrangement of the individual speakers, which are mirror-symmetrical for left and right, in combination with the low crossover frequency and the precisely phase-parallel coupling of the 30mm silk dome tweeter to the top-mounted mid-woofer, the MS62E behave like ideal point sources with homogeneous radiation, providing unparalleled spatial imaging precision. As with the previous M-6 to M-10 series, the entire electronics with phase-parallel active crossovers and six SINCOS full-bridge amplifiers have again been externalized in the new MS62E monitors. Adjustment options, which are mostly handled on the mixing console anyway, have been omitted, but the separate 19-inch 2U metal housing now contains two separate power supplies for the left and right stereo channels, as well as doubled storage capacity. Furthermore, the miniaturized multichannel amplifier, pushed to the limits of technical feasibility, can be upgraded with analog 6-band parametric equalizers for individual room calibration. The current monitor series MS6 to MS10 can be retrofitted with adapter plates for external electronics. Externalizing the electronics has the advantage of eliminating microphonic effects. Although the entire electronics have been designed to be relatively insensitive to mechanical vibrations, the difference is audible at this high sound quality level. In direct comparison, active multi-way speakers with external electronics sound more open, calm, authoritative, and relaxed, while spatial imaging precision, neutrality, and detail resolution are significantly enhanced. However, this only holds true if the 6-core connection cables from the power amplifiers to the individual speakers are of high quality. If, for example, such multi-core cables are used as typically found in professional PA systems, sound quality is degraded to such an extent that it is overall better to integrate the electronics into the speaker boxes and keep the connections as short as possible. This is partly because cables designed for PA systems are not twisted in pairs, which minimizes electromagnetic interference between the tweeter, midrange, and bass. Furthermore, such cables, to be as flexible and robust as possible, have rubber-like sheaths that negatively impact sound quality. Why this happens cannot yet be fully explained physically, nor can it be adequately measured using standard methods. However, what is clearly audible and reproducible, independent of time and place, should no longer be relegated to the "voodoo" corner, especially in professional studio settings. As standard, the MS62E monitor system includes two 3.3m long special cables with 6 x 2.5mm² copper cross-section, where each pair of wires is twisted together. The three twisted pairs are enclosed by a braided cotton sleeve, a natural material that prevents static charge and remains acoustically neutral. Sound quality can be further enhanced if each twisted pair is individually encased in a basalt fiber braided sleeve, and all three twisted pairs are enclosed by a larger basalt sleeve. The basalt contains a certain amount of iron oxide, minimizing both mutual electromagnetic interference between the three twisted pairs and external interference from high-frequency magnetic fields, without dampening high-frequency reproduction in the audible audio range. Due to the complex manufacturing process, the 6-core basalt cable HS4-SO8-TTP250-BA is only available at an additional cost. However, for previously unmatched precision, speed, and relaxed working conditions in the studio, the extra investment in the basalt cable is highly recommended. The MS6E monitor system differs from its predecessor, the MS6, by having external electronics to avoid microphonic effects and replacing the side passive membrane with an airflow-optimized bass reflex port, which significantly enhances bass dynamics. Both changes make the MS6E superior in sound quality and maximum volume even compared to the larger predecessor, the MS8. The MS6E is an unrivaled monitoring system for smaller control rooms, delivering on what advertisements usually only promise: The MS6E requires no acclimation period, saving you time right away. No matter which monitors you’ve worked with before, you can continue your production with the MS6E and rely entirely on what you hear without abstraction. Your production will finish faster, and the result will be better. The MS6E makes secondary or tertiary monitors obsolete. What sounds flawless on the MS6E will sound good on all other playback systems. The MS6E enables fast, precise, and fatigue-free work at any volume level. Its sound quality is at least on par with even the most complex high-end playback systems, regardless of size or price. The MS6E scrutinizes the entire recording chain, from room acoustics to microphones, cables, preamps, limiters, effect devices, etc. Everything that can be optimized in detail becomes immediately audible. However, the MS6E is not "over-analytical"; the wholeness of music reproduction remains intact. The MS6E serves as both a perfect studio monitor and a high-end audiophile speaker. The high-end version, the MS6EH, with two SINCOS MonoAmps, is identical to the studio version except for stronger power transformers and larger capacitors (in unregulated power supplies, some degree of over-dimensioning is sensible). Only a completely uncolored speaker can assert itself with identical tuning in both professional studio operations and commercial use. This is achieved through an unprecedentedly precise, phase-parallel analog active crossover in combination with the ideal power amplifier based on the internationally patented sinus-cosine modulator principle. The MS6E monitor system includes, as standard, two 3.3m special cables with 4 x 2.5mm² copper cross-section for connecting the 4-channel amplifier in the 19-inch/2U housing to the speakers. Each pair of wires is twisted together. The two twisted pairs are enclosed by a braided cotton sleeve, a natural material that prevents static charge and remains acoustically neutral. Poor 4-core cables, such as those used for PA systems, degrade sound quality to such an extent that it's better to integrate the electronics into the speaker boxes and accept the microphonic effects! On the other hand, sound quality can be further improved if each twisted pair is encased in a basalt fiber braided sleeve, and both twisted pairs are enclosed in a larger basalt sleeve. Basalt contains a certain amount of iron oxide, which minimizes both mutual electromagnetic interference between the two twisted pairs and external interference from high-frequency magnetic fields, without damping the high-frequency reproduction in the audible audio range. Due to the complex manufacturing process, the 4-core basalt cable is only available at an additional cost. However, for precise, fast, and relaxed work in the studio, the extra investment in the basalt cable is highly recommended. Although there is no measurement method for this yet, no bat-like ears are required to hear the difference clearly. The basalt cables make the sound clearer and the spatial imaging more precise. Experience shows that all electrical connections in a music reproduction system longer than 30cm, whether high- or low-impedance, should be regarded as "cables," where both the conductors and insulators (dielectrics) of each cable can audibly affect sound quality. For all Audio Optimum speakers, the internal wiring is therefore already made with basalt-sheathed twisted pairs as standard. The MS8E monitor system differs from its predecessor model MS8 by having an externalized electronics setup to avoid microphonic effects and by replacing the side passive membrane with a flow-optimized bass reflex tube, significantly enhancing bass dynamics and achieving higher maximum sound pressure levels. Both modifications make the MS8E, with its studio-preferred size (2-way active system with 8-inch woofer), a peerless and versatile monitoring system that finally delivers what advertising promises:
The MS8E requires no acclimatization time, saving you time immediately. No matter what monitors you have worked with before, you can continue working in the middle of a production with the MS8E and rely completely on what you hear, without any need for abstraction. Your production will be completed faster, and the result will be better.
The MS8E makes secondary or tertiary monitors obsolete. What sounds flawless on the MS8E will sound good on all other playback systems.
The MS8E enables fast, precise, and fatigue-free work at any volume level. The sound quality is at least equal to even the most sophisticated high-end playback systems, regardless of size and price.
The MS8E reveals the entire recording chain, from room acoustics to microphones, cables, preamps, limiters, effects units, etc. Everything that can be optimized in detail becomes immediately audible. However, the MS8E is not "over-analytical"; the holistic nature of music reproduction is always maintained.
The MS8E is both a perfect studio monitor and an audiophile Hi-Fi speaker of the highest level. The high-end version MS8EH with two SINCOS MonoAmps is identical to the studio version, except for stronger power transformers and larger capacitance (in unregulated power supplies, over-dimensioning is useful to a certain extent). Only a completely color-free speaker can excel in both professional studio and commercial use with the same tuning. This is achieved through the first-ever precisely phase-parallel analog active crossover combined with the ideal power amplifier based on the internationally patented sine-cosine modulator principle.
As standard, the MS8E monitor system includes two 3.3m long special cables with 4 x 2.5mm² copper cross-section, each with two pairs of twisted wires, to connect the 4-channel amplifier in the 19-inch/2U enclosure to the speakers. The two twisted pairs are enclosed in a cotton braided sleeve, a natural material that prevents static charges and remains acoustically neutral. Poor-quality 4-core cables, such as those used for PA systems, degrade sound quality so much that it would be better to place the electronics inside the speaker cabinets and accept the microphonic effects!
On the other hand, sound quality can be further improved if each twisted pair is encased in a basalt fiber braided sleeve, and both twisted pairs are enclosed by a larger basalt sleeve. Basalt contains a certain amount of iron oxide, which reduces mutual electromagnetic interference between the two twisted pairs, as well as external interference from high-frequency magnetic fields, to a minimum, without damping the high-frequency response in the audible LF range. Since the 4-core basalt cable is very complex to manufacture, it is only available at an additional cost. However, for precise, fast, and relaxed studio work, the additional investment in the basalt cable is highly recommended. Even though no measurement method exists for this yet, you don't need bat ears to hear the difference. The basalt cables make the sound clearer and the spatial imaging more precise.
Experience shows that in a music playback system, all electrical connections longer than 30cm, whether high or low impedance, should be considered "cables," with both the conductors and the non-conductors (dielectrics) of the cable audibly influencing the sound quality. For all Audio Optimum speakers, internal wiring is already standard with basalt-encased twisted pairs.
